Yarn Candy Monday: Corgi Hill Farms Batts

11. April 2011 14:00 by Jobo | 0 Comments

The colorway was "Cafe Savoy"... and I fell in love with it instantly!  I spun some batts for Angela over at Allforloveofyarn last fall, and have been keeping an eye on the selection over at Corgi Hill Farms to see if there was something else I should try.  Generally I don't go for "Sparkly" or art batts, so in the beginning I wasn't sure if I would like spinning from this sort of preparation.  Boy was I mistaken!  Not all Batts are created equal!

These Smooth batts have lots of shine from the silk, and plenty of spring and bounce from the fine wool.  The colors are Chocolaty, Creamy, and just plain fun to work with.  You can't tell from these "Shell" rolled photos, but there are several different colors in both the wool components and in the silk components too.  Many layers of wonderful blended goodness!

Corgi Hill Batt

I have started the spinning process already (which is why you only see 1 of 2 batts in the photos!) on my teensy light Golding Dragonfly Spindle.  I'll have to remember to take some photos of her and the fiber together (there is a nice big cop built up right now... must take photo!)  My goal is to try and make some nice light lace weight from this.  I have 4 ounces, and it is spinning up quite fine so far, so I hope I can get at least 800+ yards out of it in the end.

FO: Golden Salor Socks

Golden Salor Stack

I finished these Sunshiney Beauties about a month ago... but only recently got around to photographing them.  The warm golden yellow was just perfect at the time I think... to bring a little brightness into my day.

The Pattern:  Salor by Hunter Hammersen (From the great new book Silk Road Socks!  Please, Please, Please, pick up a copy!  It's a great book full of great patterns!)

I really enjoyed these socks!  Especially that they were complex enough to be captivating and interesting, but not so much that I couldn't memorize them and work on them while travelling around with family.  I particularly love the heels - those twisty little cables are very elegant looking!

The only modification I made really, was to extend the pattern all of the way down the foot.  I didn't do it on purpose!  I was away from home at the time, and I just kept knitting until I was 3 inches from the toe (like you do with many other patterns) and didn't realize I was supposed to stop.  Oh well, I hope Hunter will forgive me - I just added more of a good thing... mmmkay?

Golden Salor Side by Side

I'm definitely adding that heel to my repertoire... and maybe the tops as well... hmmm I sense a hybrid plain / Salor sock coming on... :)

Also, the Knit Picks Stroll Tonal was wonderful to work with.  As always.  I think I have every color they make it in now...

Yarn Candy Monday: Jaggerspun Zephyr!

zephyr 3 skein pile

There was a sale at Webs on some skeins of JaggerSpun Zephyr!  I have seen lots of lovely projects made with this nice silk blend laceweight, but of course, have never seen any of the yarn in person.  I would have liked to get a more plain color (like cream or white, or ecru even) but since the price was so good I figured it was worth getting a few skeins to try anyways.  You can buy this stuff on cones too... so at least now I'll know what to expect, and maybe I'll feel comfortable enough to buy a whole cone next time.

zephyr 3 skeinsit's really light and soft!
