Yarn Candy Monday: Cashmere Angora 2-ply Heaven

I love my Russian Spindle... and also the yarns I've been able to spin with it!  This lovely little pile of fluff was my first real amount of yarn made and plied on the Russian - One ply of Angora with one ply of Cashmere!

upclose angora cashmere3 The skein is so light it practically floats off whatever surface is is sitting on! I have two, but I already wound one into a ball so I can start knitting with it asap! (this one is 27 grams... approximately 200 yards)

From 30g of Angora and about 50g of Cashmere I've been able to make around 350 - 375 yards of fine 2-ply.  Some of the sections are a bit thinner than others, but overall they average out to be around a lace weight.

The angora has a light soft halo, and when plied with the creamy cashmere the final yarn color is somewhere around a smoky dusky beige.

I'm really happy with the way this has turned out!  This was my first real attempt at using angora fiber on it's own.  I had done some blended projects with a little angora blended in with other wools, but I hadn't used the fiber pure on it's own.  I really enjoyed the spinning of this little yarn - both the angora and the cashmere parts - and I can't wait to start knitting something out of it!  350 yards should be enough to make a narrow lacy scarf or something!

Yarn Candy Monday is Baaaack! Barking Dog Yarns

9. August 2010 12:29 by Jobo | 2 Comments

barking dog card I was lucky enough to win a pattern and yarn draw a few weeks ago from Hunter Hammersen over at Violently Domestic... which included a fantastic free skein of 100% Merino Squishable goodness from Barking Dog Yarns.

Well my Package arrived last week, and I am finally getting around to showing you the photographs :)

When I found out I had won a skein, I thought that this would be a perfect time to order another skein too (as a test, you know, erm, to see what the rest of her stuff was like!  as if I need a reason to buy more yarn at this point)  So I also ordered a skein of her Cashmere / Merino Blend.  I love the colors!  It was really hard to decide!

Below:  Sirius 100% Fine Merino Superwash in "Sky Pirate"

The first thing I noticed when I picked up the envelope/baggie the yarns came in was how light and soft the yarn was.  In true Jobo Fashion, I could not wait the 30 second drive from the mailbox to the house to tear into the package.  I knew what it was, and I wanted it open NOW.  This yarn did not disappoint!  The pinks and purples are so soft and girly - the cashmere is so soft and lovely.  No doubt about it, this skein MUST become a shawl or scarf of some kind.  It needs to be close to the skin.  The vibrant blues and purples of "Sky Pirate" are difficult to photograph and even lovelier in person.  They remind me of the Caribbean ocean with it's teal and blue waters, with some indigo and violet shadows.  I will have to make the most special pair of socks yet to do it justice!

Suzan's customer service is fast fast fast, and completely top notch!  You will love her yarns... Pop over and take a Peek :)

Yarn Candy Monday - Moving is Killing my Yarn Buzz

31. May 2010 10:45 by Jobo | 2 Comments

cardboard box

Finally, we are moving the end of June.  Moving = Packing.

This weekend I packed up the majority of my stash... gently touching, petting, and then packing each skein.  You would all laugh at me if you knew how many boxes leaving my studio were filled with yarn and fiber alone.  I laughed at myself really :P

Oh Glorious Yarn Stash!  How I love thee.  I dream of projects to be made out of each ball and skein, like promises of enjoyable knitting to come... someday!  There are yarns of every weight and color, and I love them all!  And then there are the bags of fluffy, light, wonderful wools.... Don't get me started on spinning fiber.  I might have to unpack it, roll around in it, and have a little yarny nap in it!  That might put the packing schedule a little bit behind...

There may not be many Yarn Candy Monday Photos for a little while until I am able to unpack my toys.  Rest assured however, that I have an extra large basket of my very favorite yarns at the ready...  Just because I'm moving doesn't mean I won't knit this month!  The knitting may be the only thing that saves my sanity....
